3D Stands Alone
Attendance to 3D movies has been steadily dwindling, as evidenced by this last weeks opening of “Kung Fu Panda 2”. In contrast to “Avatar”, which boasted about 80% of it’s revenue from 3d, “Kung Fu Panda 2” to draw only a third to it’s 3D showing.
RealD, the company that handles the equipment for cinemas lost ‘about a quarter of their value’ last month. This indicates a waning interest in paying a premium for a movie, especially in light of the complaints of headaches by movie goers.
Will 3D fall out of favor as it has so many times before? Only time will tell.
