E = MC452²

Playing with 1,800W of McIntosh power.
E = MC452 2
We recently got the chance to play with two of McIntosh’s MC452.
On it’s own, each MC452 is a 450 Watt stereo power amplifier, capable of driving any 8, 4 or 2 ohm load thanks to it’s autoformer outputs and not clipping until reaching a tremendous 1.8KW of output.
While this amplifier is truly a force to be reckoned with on it’s own, we had the very rare opportunity to biamplify with two of them. That’s 450W x2 per side, 900W per channel, and a whopping 1.8kW into our Paradigm Tributes.
Driven with McIntosh’s C47 preamplifier, we were able to run two balanced lines for both the Left and Right channels.
Surprisingly, even in the relatively compact space of Demo Lounge 2 in Wellington, 900W a channel really does show what these speakers are capable of, as well as showing up some details that less than ideal recordings seem to have managed to hide from a lesser system.
If you’re in the area, this will be running in our Demo Lounge 2 for the next few weeks so feel free to drop in and have a listen.
